Finniss River Shiraz 2017

Special Price $19.00 Regular Price $25.00
Enveloping dark fruits including plum and chocolate, with excellent sweetness of fruit. Plenty of fine yet grippy tannins and a good dollop of aristocratic oak to boot. Persistence and power is pretty amazing at this price point. Black as the ace of spades.

Finniss River is part of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is quite close to McLaren Vale and also runs alongside the south-eastern shoulder of the Adelaide Hills. Climatically it is a little cooler than the McLaren Vale, bring hot during the middle of the day but quite cool in the evening as the Southern Ocean sends it cold air in. As a result the growing cycle is longer than most other regions in Australia which gives the region the ability to present fruit with exceptional concentration, colour, brightness and complexity. The Finniss River vineyard was originally established by the Hickinbotham family and has supplied fruit to Orlando for 19 consecutive vintages. They use sheep to mow their lawns and practice mimimal chemical spraying.

With time in the bottle these "primary" notes are moderated and then supplemented with earthy or savory "tertiary" notes such as leather and truffle.

"Secondary" flavor and aroma notes are those associated with several things, generally winemakers' practices (such as oak barrel and yeast regimes).
