Arguably Australia’s most famous wine region, the Barossa Valley hardly needs an introduction. Its reputation has been proven time and time again, and its wines have been celebrated on the world stage for decades, for very good reason. As South Aussies here at winedirect.com.au, we’re big fans of this local wine-producing superstar!
Located in South Australia, an hour or so northeast of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley was founded by German settlers, who took advantage of the warm climate of the region to produce fortified wine, which was popular in Australia at the time. The focus of the region shifted in the mid-20th century when there was a growing demand for premium, non-fortified wines, which are what the region is still known for today.

- Lienert Vineyards 'Sieben Klon' Barossa Shiraz 2021Special Price $30.00 Regular Price $50.00The 3rd, and best release of Sieben Klon Shiraz so far - no surprise, given this is from the exceptional 2021 vintage. Made by former Penfolds St Henri growers, the Lienert brothers, each of the 7 distinct clones were harvested and fermented separately - the harvest date chosen to best allow each grape to express its best characters. For instance, the EVOS12 (Eden Valley clone) was harvested earlier than the others to allow for a beautiful perfume and liveliness in the final wine. Fermentation is done in tiny open top fermenters which are hand plunged up to 4 times a day. Certain clones are fermented cooler to better express delicate aromatics whilst some are plunged and pumped over heavily to achieve a more structural element. The trick is finding the right balance. - Lone Palm Vineyards 'Selection' Shiraz 2023$250.00Less than 200 dozen were produced of this magnificently concentrated and impossibly smooth beast. The best fruit is hand selected from the lowest yielding rows of the winery's best vineyard in Marananga. This was supplemented in '23 by fruit which used to supply the incredible Magpie Estate Malcolm Shiraz. Some whole bunch and 100% whole berries are fermented slowly in open fermenters before basket pressing into French oak.
