On Point Shiraz

At just $15 a bottle, this could be our best ever value Shiraz pack. The 'quaffer', aka Yarra Celebration Shiraz has scored an average of 4.4 stars out of 5 from customers who have bought it from us. We like it too... good fruit, mid weight, too good to be called a quaffer. The Angas King is a $75 a bottle stunner from the Clare. Richness, intensity and complexity in spades here in a wine which is only just entering its ideal drinking window and will drink well for at least another decade. Sidewood's Shiraz has harvested 12 gold medals and 96 points from Halliday. These are estate grown, hand tended vines- with the best fruit picked by a Pellenc select harvester. Lesser quality fruit does not find its way into this wine. Consider also, the use of 12 individual clones separately wild yeast fermented, given extended maceration on skins in barrel and then matured for 15 months in 100% French oak, 25% of which is new. Finally, only the best barrels make the cut for bottling.

    Clare Valley, SA
94pts Wine Pilot, 95pts Sam Kim
Rich, black, dark, deep, powerfully fruited and structured with a decent lick of oak. Old school but drinking beautifully thanks to its age. Blackcurrant, black olives, bay leaf, dark chocolate, zesty acidity and cedary oak make this a powerful pleasure right now. Will continue to improve tho, for at least a decade.
    Adelaide Hills, SA
96pts James Halliday, 12 Gold medal
One of the most insane quality to price ratios on the planet. Hand tended vines are picked by a Pellenc select harvester, which pick just the absolute best fruit. 12 separate clones of Shiraz are fermented separately using wild yeast, given extended maceration on skins and matured in French oak for 15 months. Finally, only the best barrels are blended and bottled. That sounds to us like most high-end producer's $60-$100+ Shiraz. No surprise this has picked up 96 points from Halliday and 12 gold medals.
    Yarra Valley, Vic
A lovely, medium bodied, blue fruited and peppery Shiraz from the Yarra Valley. There are red fruits here too, specifically cranberry. The wine is soft and bright with good length. Great with charcuterie or perhaps a prosciutto pizza.
