Wicks Estate CJ Shiraz 2018

Special Price $35.00 Regular Price $45.00
Quite a big black beast, with oodles of black fruits, spice, cedar and depth of flavour. Excellent on opening, this also improves as it breathes and is a superb match for pretty much anything beefy. N.B. Masterchef fans, this has not been tested with Beef Ice cream.

The Wicks family association with the picturesque Woodside region of the Adelaide Hills started long before the winery was established. The wine part of the story began with the purchase of a 54 hectare property by Tim and Simon Wick in 1999, set along the Inverbrackie Creek the property was planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Cabernet. In 2004 they completed their state of the art processing facility to back up the traditional methods used in the creating of their generous hand crafted wines.

Worth noting is how the average rainfall increases the higher you go, with Mount Lofty picking up 1400mm on the old splash-o-meter compared to 850mm just 10K down the road in Charleston. This range of moisture and altitudes results in a variety of soils, but in general are sand and clay loam over clay subsoils. ... Read Full Article

A bit of shale and ironstone can be found, and the soil is acidic on average and rarely acidic.

The combination of climate and soil lends to superb cool-weather whites like Riesling (if you watch for mould), Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and crisp Chardonnays. Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon can also be found, with the grapes maturing
