Sam Kim gave it 97, offering that it is ‘A magnificent offering exhibiting density with harmony and structure, finishing immensely long and captivating’ Kim Brebach gave 97+, saying Ripe blue fruits and polished French oak complete the seduction . The depth of flavour is immense, … the ample tannin on the finish has a firm grip on things but the finesse takes the edge off it. . An assembly of our favourite Grenache and blends at the mo. Multiple trophy winning Kilikanoon Baudinet GSM, trophy winning Kilikanoon Prodigal, Curtis' 96 point old viner and Lone Palm's old vine 95 pointer all offer power to burn but with a brightness of fruit that is very much the modern way. The Lienert and Brother's at War are lighter Grenache, but not wishy washy. Both of these offer exceptional red fruits, excellent acidity and whisper fine tannins. We love all 6 of these wines. There really isn't a weak link in this pack. From the Mike Farmilo (ex Penfolds Grange) made Temp and Sangio, to the Brothers at War gold winning and Halliday 95 pointed Grenache, which is as powerful as it is light on its feet. The Mazza Touriga is a ripper too, tiny production, epic aromatics and a softness which belies its complexity. From one of the Rioja's oldest producers, the Carlos Serres Crianza 2020 which sees high quality Tempranillo spend a year in oak and a year in bottle prior to release. This is a particularly good example, packed with red fruits, cherries, spice, oak and nervy acidity. Bleasdale 2022 - a trophy winner at the Adelaide Show with wonderful red fruits and subtle oak influence. Red cherries, chocolate, supportive acidity and fine tannins. Good at room temp, and also worth giving a 20 min spell in the fridge. Colab and Bloom 2021 - a Gold medal winner from a highly regarded vineyard in Maacclesfield (Adelaide Hills). A wonderful selection of red wines from the Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley. The Sieben Klon is a 95 pointer made by former St Henri growers, the Metala Legacy is as good a Cab as the Langhorne can make (which is mighty fine). Dowie Doole's Shiraz has black fruits, but also, and much rarer, blue fruits too. It is a belter. If all Shiraz had black and blue fruits, no one would buy anything else! Lone Palm's Old Vine Grenache will sell out in a few months and the Angas King Reserve is incredibly fresh for its age and has at least a decade ahead of it. At just $15 a bottle, this could be our best ever value Shiraz pack. The 'quaffer', aka Yarra Celebration Shiraz has scored an average of 4.4 stars out of 5 from customers who have bought it from us. We like it too... good fruit, mid weight, too good to be called a quaffer. The Angas King is a $75 a bottle stunner from the Clare. Richness, intensity and complexity in spades here in a wine which is only just entering its ideal drinking window and will drink well for at least another decade. Sidewood's Shiraz has harvested 12 gold medals and 96 points from Halliday. These are estate grown, hand tended vines- with the best fruit picked by a Pellenc select harvester. Lesser quality fruit does not find its way into this wine. Consider also, the use of 12 individual clones separately wild yeast fermented, given extended maceration on skins in barrel and then matured for 15 months in 100% French oak, 25% of which is new.
