Chain of Ponds Lienert Vineyards Best Wine Deals

Just the good stuff here for less than $25 a bottle. These have all picked up 95 points or more somewhere and deservedly so.

The Brothers at War picked up a Gold medal and was just pipped for a Trophy at the Adelaide Show. Metala’s ‘1891’ Cab just scored 95 from Kim Brebach who called it a powerhouse and worth every penny of its asking price.

The Lienert Shiraz is made by former Penfolds St Henri growers and has exceptional clarity and depth of fruit. Kim Brebach gave it 95 as did Ray Jordan who called it exquisitely poised, with driving intensity, an excellent wine.

The Cutis Small Batch sports 96pts. and is old vine, black fruited, full tilt, McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Finally, the Yaldara Grand also has 2x96 and a 95’er and is incredible- mixing black fruited power with a elegance which makes it something very special indeed.

Méthode Champenoise refers to the laborious process whereby the wine is aged on lees in bottle to build complexity and depth of flavour. Costs a lot of both money and time to produce sparkling this way but the results in this instance are undeniable. A wonderful selection of red wines from the Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley. The Sieben Klon is a 95 pointer made by former St Henri growers, the Metala Legacy is as good a Cab as the Langhorne can make (which is mighty fine). Dowie Doole's Shiraz has black fruits, but also, and much rarer, blue fruits too. It is a belter. If all Shiraz had black and blue fruits, no one would buy anything else! Lone Palm's Old Vine Grenache will sell out in a few months and the Angas King Reserve is incredibly fresh for its age and has at least a decade ahead of it. Sometimes only a chilled glass of Sauv Blanc will do. So here’s six exceptional examples for you to have a crack at... from Margaret River, Pemberton and the Adelaide Hills. Oatley’s Margs SBS picked up a Trophy and golds at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show and offers a beguiling mix of passionfruit, lime zest, white pepper and greenery. Picardy’s Sauv Blanc Sem (85% SB) is superb, with crisp fruit and great texture. No surprises that it has picked up a 96. Three distinct clones of SB are used along with 2 different yeast strains. On opening it seems soft and delicate but as it airs, minerality, guava, lime, passionfruit and all manner of complexities emerge. The Chain of Ponds SB is crisp and offers a lovely mix of greenery and passionfruit. The Riposte, made by the Legendary Tim and Nick Knappstein is textural, succulent and pungent, a joy to drink. Howard are major growers in the Adelaide Hills and supply substantial quantities of fruit to what are arguably the two best known producers of SB in the region. This, their own bottling, is of course excellent too. Finally the Cape Jaffa SB is also lovely with tropical fruits, citrus and more are at play. Learn More

A tiny production, single vineyard Riesling from the Eden, textural and aromatic Sauv Blanc from legend Tim Knappstein, fragrant and creamy PG and a zesty Sauv Blanc from Chain of Ponds. These are all drinking beautifully now and will continue to do so over the next couple of years. The Riesling, a joy now, will spread its wings over the next decade, if you have the patience. An assembly of our favourite Grenache and blends at the mo. Multiple trophy winning Kilikanoon Baudinet GSM, trophy winning Kilikanoon Prodigal, Curtis' 96 point old viner and Lone Palm's old vine 95 pointer all offer power to burn but with a brightness of fruit that is very much the modern way. The Lienert and Brother's at War are lighter Grenache, but not wishy washy. Both of these offer exceptional red fruits, excellent acidity and whisper fine tannins. We love all 6 of these wines.
