This week I am sipping on a Semillon from First Creek in the Hunter Valley. Semillon is a thing of beauty really. Drunk young it's fresh with juicy acidity, apple, pear, and loads of bright citrus notes. Kept in the cellar and it will reward you in 5, 10, and 20 years. As it develops it gets (I think) a little grassy, the acidity is less prominent and notes of honey start to form. Pick this up from winedirect.com.au at a bargain of $22 a bottle and the only thing you will complain about is having not bought 6-12 bottles!
Villa Fresco by Pizzini Prosecco NV
$30.00
A beautiful Prosecco made by Pizzini wines from King Valley Glera, the same varietal used in the production of Italian Prosecco. This is an exceptionally refreshing wine offering lemon sherbet and lime zest, yeast, toastiness and a hint of jasmine. Complex for a Prosecco.

Pizzini wines are based in Victoria’s picturesque King Valley and are rated 5 red stars by James Halliday – the highest rating he offers. Vines were planted in 1978, with the first releases under the Pizzini label following in 1994. They specialise in alternative varietals and prosecco and prosecco style sparkling wines. Planted varietals include Arneis, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Verduzzo, Moscato, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Shiraz, Canaiolo, Teroldego and Cabernet Sauvignon. They have always made excellent wine, so its not surprising James Halliday has given them his highest winery rating of 5 red stars.
