Sometimes you just want a red with a bit of experience under its belt- still offering the vivacious fruit of youth but with the rough edges knocked off, the fruit if anything more vibrantly on show thanks to the more harmonious structure underpinning it. 6 amazing Grenache. 2 vintages of Heirloom Alcala- one of which won the Decanter Trophy as best Grenache in the world, plus the 21 vintage Alcala which Halliday scored 95. Both are magnificent. There’s Dandelion’s Treasure Trove Grenache which the Halliday Wine companion describes as having both sublime fruit and (a supportive) structural latticework. There’s Brothers at War Peacekeeper Grenache which was just pipped for a trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show. Also, Kilikanoon’s magnificent 1946 plantings Walton’s Grenache, a $96 a bottle, full throttle stunner, and finally the Lienert Sieben Klon Grenache – the Grenache us windirecties have ordered more of to take home than any other this year.
