Love Kilikanoon reds? Love old vine McLaren Shiraz? This may be the pack for you.
3 bottles each of Kilikanoon Meymans Shiraz and the Meymans Shiraz Cab, both of which offer concentrated, ripe fruits, complexity and a sprinkle of the ‘fairy dust’ Kilikanoon seem to find somewhere in the winery when they are brewing up the good stuff.
Plus, 6 bottles coming your way of Curtis Small Batch, old vine 21 Shiraz. This might be our most reordered wine of the last coupl’a months and while the 96 points from a wine writer is a handy and deserved accolade, those repeat orders really tell the story of how stunning this wine is.
96pts Sam Kim, 95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Ken Gargett
A black, plush, and full-bodied Shiraz made from 80-year-old vines. Exceptional fruit intensity here, and weight of black fruits on the palate. Opulence is balanced by judicious acidity and there’re plenty of tannins driving through to an epic conclusion. Decant if you are going to enjoy now, otherwise cellar!
A standout from the Kilikanoon stable. From Kim Brebach, who gave it 96 points. ‘The fruit is gorgeous, rich and generous, the wine is big but soft and seductive, and the oak handling exemplary. The texture is velvet, the balance is perfect.’ A stunner which you can drink now, or age for up to another dozen years or so.
Whilst 2020 was a challenging growing season and yields were very low, fruit quality and concentration were excellent, even exemplary. There is concentrated black and blue fruit here, along with cedar and spice. The acid is fantastic, playing the perfect underscore to the fruit and giving this wine excellent lift and length. Tannins are fine and firm. Superb to drink now and for the next decade.
