2021 Super Loong Lunch Red Pack (incl. $40 donation)

We’re back! Well actually we never really left just had to do things a little different last year. But we are in full swing this year and hoping to smash pervious effort to raise money to help an amazing 12-year-old named Mabelle Kayser and her family.

This year we’ve filled our wine packs with some absolutely stunning wines including the return of a favourite from one of our very first packs the Irvine Grand Merlot from Eden Valley valued at $150 a bottle. The red has $746 worth of the finest reds for $270 with each pack containing wines from Jeanneret, Richard Hamilton, Zilzie, Lone Palm and a bottle of the much-loved Irvine Grand Merlot. The white pack is quality personified with $367 worth of wines for $250 including my fav Adelaide Hills sparkling form Wicks estate plus wines from Picardy in WA to Santa & D’Sas in out of the Yarra Valley. As with every year the wine is a bonus and the most important thing and the reason we are here is to raise much needed help for Mabelle her family. Winedirect.com.au will do this by donating $40 from every dozen sold direct to the fundraising efforts.

    Wines In This Pack
    1 x Irvine Grand Merlot 2017 (RRP $150.00)
    Eden Valley, SA
    95pts Sam Kim
Aussie Merlot doesn’t get more complex or highly awarded than Irvine’s Grand Merlot, twice recipient of the best Merlot in the world award. Recent releases are even better structured and more lively and we are confident will improve for 10 years plus. The 2017 retains the power and complexity of previous editions and offers plum, blueberries, fig, five spice and dark chocolate. Decant for several hours before drinking.
    Barossa Valley, SA
    96pts Sam Kim
An intense blend from the wineries best fruit from a west-facing hillside block in the prized Barossa sub-region of Marananga. A mix of mostly old and some new French and American oak is used here, allowing the oak to appear as a character rather than the plot. Black, more black and blue fruits, chocolate, mineral, liquorice, spice, blueberries, blackberries, cedar, and firm tannins.
    Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
Gold Medal, 95pts Kim Brebach, 93pts Sam Kim, 91pts, James Halliday, 91pts Wine Pilot
Big, rich, dark and rustic, like a serious Spanish Temp! Expressive cherries, spindly oak and chalky tannins finish this deep, dark and chewy expression of Temp.
    2 x Zilzie Ferghana Shiraz 2019 (RRP $50.00)
Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Sam Kim, 91pts James Halliday
Lush with deep, rich black fruits, cedar, liquorice, cigar box and plentiful fine tannins! An exceptional premium Shiraz that works wonderfully now with meat and will improve for up to a decade.
    Clare Valley, SA
94pts Kim Brebach, 93pts Sam Kim
This is a deeply fruited, rich and dark red wine. We found blackcurrant plum, cedar, dark chocolate and herbs. There are some big, chalky tannins to finish but they sit well as a backstop to the beautifully intense dark fruits. You could drink this now or anytime over the next decade, perhaps even 20 years.
    McLaren Vale, SA
93pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Sam Kim, 92pts James Halliday
From old bush vines planted in 1947. Dry grown, hand pruned and picked, these vines produce exceptionally concentrated fruit. White pepper, kirsch and cherries in a medium bodied yet muscular and fruit intense setting. Plenty of fine tannins to finish. Drink now or cellar for 5-8 years.
    Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Sam Kim
A truly beautiful and fruit driven blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. The Grenache here brings spice, confected notes, raspberries, rhubarb and sour cherry. The Mataro offers chocolate, brooding brambles and other slightly angry things sourced from dungeons deep. The Shiraz brings blue and black fruits, chocolate and fine, fine tannins. It’s a mad mélange this, one we’ll tip our hat to, whilst asking for it to be filled.
