This is just the second release of Firehawk Farm which is produced from Dandelion’s finest vineyard. There is mammoth concentration of fruit here and perfect integration of fruit, oak and acid. New World take on an Old World fave. Still showing the signature Grenache trademarks on the nose with aromatic dark raspberries and red cherries, you might even find a little aniseed and other spice notes once it has had some time to open up. The palate offers an array of juicy red berry fruits and oh so subtle hints of vanilla with a touch of toasted cocoa even, little gifts given from the French Oak. There's a power and density here not normally found at $30 a bottle. Fruit was treated gently, being basket pressed into a mix of older French and American oak. A tiny patch of 111 year old Eden Valley Vines produces miniscule bunches of velvety Shiraz which are fermented wild with a high percentage of whole bunches. Lots of new oak here, lots of dark cherry, spice, plum, chocolate, black pepper and licorice. Good already with the promise of becoming exceptional. Learn More

The Grenache (from 95 year old bush vines) was fermented on skins for 10 days after harvest with a small element of whole bunch. The shiraz is from Blewitt Springs and fermented on skins for 8 days then pressings were added back in. Both wines were then transferred to 8 and 9 year old barrels for the wines to develop without the intrusion of oak flavour.

This is a magnificent blend of robust, full bodied shiraz with spice and chocolate offset by the juicy red and blue fruits of old vine grenache. A wonderful wine to enjoy now but the structure suggests it has 10-15 years of improvement ahead of it.

This is McLaren Vale Grenache in all its playful and complex glory. The nose shows a variety of red and blue fruits of raspberry and blueberry, apparent as soon as you open the bottle, the palate is brooding and complex with layers of juicy fruits and a dry mouthfeel underpinned by powdery tannins… one for the cellar, or a brief decant will open this beauty up for maximum enjoyment.
