Less than 200 dozen were produced of this magnificently concentrated and impossibly smooth beast. The best fruit is hand selected from the lowest yielding rows of the winery's best vineyard in Marananga. This was supplemented in '23 by fruit which used to supply the incredible Magpie Estate Malcolm Shiraz. Some whole bunch and 100% whole berries are fermented slowly in open fermenters before basket pressing into French oak. Another delicious release of Hillside Shiraz from low yielding vineyards in Marananga, old vines from Stonewell, planted to the R6 and 1654 clones. There’s old vine fruit from Greenock, the vines so old that the clonal selection is unknown. Serious, old vines Grenache this, with a degree of intensity you don’t always find in Grenache. As per every vintage released so far, the '23 is bolstered by the inclusion of some powerful, low yielding old vine Shiraz. A red and black fruit perfume abounds. A little riper than most PGs, this definitely a nod towards the style of Alsace. Gorgeous ripe pears and musk on the nose and palate which is already creamily textural. This mid-palate mouthfeel will continue to develop with time as the wine grows into itself. Only free run juice from whole bunch pressings were used and a small percentage of the wine spent time in old French oak. The result is a mixture of freshness and texture. From our perspective, also the best Grenache blend they have released to date and one of their very best wines overall.
