The vibrant, slippery fruit is supercharged, bursting with bright flavour yet the wine is not overripe or high in alcohol. It’s medium-bodied, almost elegant – it’s truly rare to find such intensity of flavour in a gentle red. So far so good; we’re on track for a good $199 doz. Then it starts to get silly, because we’ve also shoehorned in three bottles of the 2015 Mitchell Peppertree Shiraz: a 96-point stunner, mid weight and drinking beautifully.
