This is Hirsch Hill's flagship Chardonnay, estate grown in the Toolangi sub-region of the Yarra Valley. A cracking Chardy offering florals, green apple, spice, hazelnut, stonefruit and more. Plenty of acid here, a creamy palate and judicious use of French oak make this an almost complete expression of cool climate Chardonnay. The only thing that can make it better is time. This be one of those - aromatics eschewing the confines of fired silica entrapment to search out your olfactories with their irresistible siren song woven from sour cherries, fresh red flowers, spice and truffles. You won't rush to taste this one but when you do, its perfect, mid-weight and red fruited palate will bring a second wave of pleasure. This is fresh, satin-like in texture, and offers a perfectly modulated blend of fine tannins and French oak char to finish. Exquisite.

Leasingham wines have been around since the 1890s and have been steered by a series of legendary winemakers over the years. It wasn’t until the early 70s that the Bin series kicked off, with a Bin 61 Shiraz and a Bin 56 Cab Malbec. These were both highly prized for their exceptional quality and regular ability to out-perform wines selling at 2-3 times their asking price. A few of us from WD were lucky enough to attend a vertical tasting with Tim Knappstein (one of the aforementioned and legendary Leasingham alumni) a decade or so ago and came away incredibly impressed with the quality and consistency of the wines. We looked at over 20 vintages, and everything we tasted was still showing fruit, the best of them were exceptional. So it’s a little sad that the '21 may be the last vintage of the Bin 61 Shiraz. Lots of good stuff here, black tea, chocolate, coffee grounds, mint, plum, charcuterie, and blackberries. Florals, orange blossom. honeydew melon,and rose petals which lead into moving citrus and jasmine as the wine opens. Excellent acidity here and a lovely mouthfeel making for a wine which is both strident and charming in equal measure. Will cellar well, revealing a honeyed character as it ages. Learn More

Quality pinot which is relaxed and ready to drink. Plenty of red fruit fragrance here, plenty of spice, wild mushroom and cured meat on the palate, and a fleshiness which quality Pinot always seems to offer. Learn More

A beautifully soft, savoury and complex red. A medium-bodied palate with red and black fruits. Layers of spice, dark plum and blackberries with plenty of fine tannins and a slightly rustic edge from the very high quality Mataro used here to finish the blend off. What a stunning ‘lighter and brighter’ Shiraz from Turkey Flat. A neat counterpoint to their Estate Shiraz, it packs a powerful punch of fruit yet is lighter on its feet than it’s more expensive counterpart. Some whole bunch is used here and the oak used is all older – both factors in allowing the fruit to really shine. Red and blue fruits, white pepper, bright and crunchy goodness.
