'But it is made from the same grapes as Amarone', we hear you say. It is, and Bardolino is only half an hour from that region, but the wines are altogether brighter and far more delicate than you'll find there. This Bardolino sees about 6 months in oak, followed by some time in tank prior to bottling – red fruits and violet form the nose. Fermented on skins for 10 days after harvest with a small element of whole bunch. The wine was then transferred to 8 and 9 year old barrels for the wine to develop without the intrusion of oak flavour.
This is McLaren Vale Grenache in all its playful and complex glory. The nose shows a variety of red and blue fruits of raspberry and blueberry, apparent as soon as you open the bottle, the palate is brooding and complex with layers of juicy fruits and a dry mouthfeel underpinned by powdery tannins… one for the cellar, or a brief decant will open this beauty up for maximum enjoyment.
