BAROSSA VALLEY SA, RED WINES

Arguably Australia’s most famous wine region, the Barossa Valley hardly needs an introduction. Its reputation has been proven time and time again, and its wines have been celebrated on the world stage for decades, for very good reason. As South Aussies here at winedirect.com.au, we’re big fans of this local wine-producing superstar! Located in South Australia, an hour or so northeast of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley was founded by German settlers, who took advantage of the warm climate of the region to produce fortified wine, which was popular in Australia at the time. The focus of the region shifted in the mid-20th century when there was a growing demand for premium, non-fortified wines, which are what the region is still known for today. The Mediterranean climate of the Baro ...

  1. Miss Zilm Riesling 2021
Special Price $28.00 Regular Price $32.00
95 from Qwine and 94 from Winefront, both exceptionally hard markers. Bath powder and white florals lead to a minerally palate packed with lemons and limes. Tangy, complex, ethereal and should cellar for a minimum of a decade, probably 2. Made by Keeda Zilm, who is also now the winemaker for the legendary Vickery winery. Learn More
  2. Miss Zilm Riesling 2022
    $28.00
To quote Qwine, who are an exceptionally tough crew to get a 90+ score out of ... 2022 is a great year for Riesling and this release from Miss Zilm just sizzles. It's precise and draws you closer. The acid is crisp and well handled - green apple-like. Chalky with bath bomb perfume, lime juice and lemon sorbet tease with a river stone minerality purring throughout. Quite lovely in every way... A perfect description of this exceptional, small batch, single vineyard Riesling. Learn More
  3. Mitchell Kalmar Vineyard Shiraz 2018
Special Price $45.00 Regular Price $50.00
2018 was a pretty fine vintage, and the Mitchell Kalmar Vineyard, quite close to cellar door is an exceptional vineyard. Soooo, in 2018 the Mitchells made the call to pick, vinify and bottle this vineyard with the intention of releasing a standalone wine. It is a ripper, blacker, denser and with exceptional potential for ageing. The Kalmar is laden with black fruits, graphite, spice and more. The texture here is thick, without being overwhelming, and the palate extremely long. Drinkable now, yeppers, but will cellar like a champ too. Learn More
  4. Mitchell Peppertree Shiraz 2015
Special Price $28.00 Regular Price $48.00
A riper, darker and more supple expression of Peppertree Shiraz which retains the hallmark spice and subtlety. It was aged in old oak and released at 5 years of age – ready to drink! This is balanced and fresh, offering dark fruits, cherries, violets, dark chocolate, savoury notes and white pepper. Drink any time over the next 10+ years. Learn More
  5. The Very Limited BSP
    13 pack - $20.38/bottle
    73% Off RRP
    The Very Limited BSP
    Regular Price $970.00 $265.00

BSP, you ask? BSP is a TLA (that’s a Three-Letter Acronym) for Best Selling Pack—or at least, we reckon it would be if we had more of a couple of these wines.

Lloyd Brothers’ luscious, trophy-winning Syrah is in very short supply, and Kilikanoon’s flagship Cabernet—the 6-gold-medal-winning, 96-point, $96-a-bottle 2018 Tregea won’t be around for long either.

Maybe we should have called it the Fast Selling Pack? Either way, if this one catches your eye, now’s the time to lock it in.

P.S. The rest of the lineup is just as impressive—two stunning reds from Turkey Flat, Claymore’s Dark Side Shiraz, Martin’s magical McLaren Vale Super Premium, and the Baker’s Bottle: Yaldara Grand Shiraz!

  6. Vickery Watervale Riesling 2022
Special Price $22.00 Regular Price $24.00
A powerful and textural Riesling from the superb 2022 vintage. This is already excellent but will cellar for a decade, probably two. A floral, lime and lemon bouquet leads to a steely, mineral palate replete with even more powerful and inviting citrus. Length and persistence are superb. Huon Hooke rates this well inside the top 10 Clare Rieslings from the vintage and just 1 point adrift from top spot. Learn More
