Kirrihill Wines has been around since the late 1990s when two mates, Sean Edwards and Rob Stanway realised their dream of starting a winery. Both 6th generation Clare locals, they have known each other since they were toddlers. Kirrihill Wines has grown into quite the behemoth with 1,400 acres to draw on and sales in Australia, Europe, USA and China.
With a respectful nod to Edward “Paddy” Gleeson, the town’s founder, you will find the name Gleeson on a number of labels. Paddy established a pastoral run in the Clare Valley area and eventually laid out plans for the town of Clare, which was named after his home county in Ireland. Known as the King of Clare, he was an incredibly popular and charismatic man. One such example is the Kirrihill Gleeson and Co Riesling – it is a stunning wine, an excellent tribute to Paddy and a glowing endorsement of Kirrihill Wines’ desire to showcase the best of Clare on the world stage.
