Founded in 2005, Murray Street Vineyards (MSV) is set on exceptional vineyards in the Greenock sub region. Currently, MSV farm around 300 acres situated in the celebrated ‘Western Ridge’ of the Barossa, 130 acres in Gomersal, and 170 in Greenock. These acres hold predominantly Grenache and Shiraz vines, dating back to the 1940s and 1960s.
Minimal watering allows yields which average a very low two tonnes per acre, providing excellent fruit intensity, vibrancy and a streak of minerality in many of their red wines. While the plantings are substantial, the team at MSV divide their vineyards into small sub-sections, where each area is separately treated with individual handling. MSV start their process with picking, fermenting, maturing and then blending their grapes. Due to this process, it can mean there are as many as 34 fermenters in use at one time during vintage allowing MSV to be a large, small-batch producer. This process creates great scope for experimentation and tweaking, without compromising on quality. Murray Street Vineyards have an amazing track record on the accolade front, picking up Most Successful Australian Exhibitor at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and Barossa Winery of the Year Award, held in Melbourne at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2014. Since then MSV have continued to work on improving the quality and intensity of their wines by investing additional time and money into improving their existing vineyards. The Murray Street Vineyards philosophy is “Know the land and there’s only one way to do things. Celebrate the DNA from dirt to fruit, preserve that in bottle and then get better at what we do.”..
