From humble beginnings in 1987 Deep Woods Estate has grown to become one of Western Australia’s Shinning lights. Flying under the Fogarty Wine Group flag since 2005 and under the watchful eye of Jimmy Watson winner and James Halliday 2019 Winemaker of the Year Julian Langworth since 2011, the 32 Hectare Deep Woods Estate has built its reputation on creating stunning Margaret River wines with a focus on Cabernet, Chardonnay and Shiraz. No one trick pony they also produce remarkable Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and are now the biggest producer of Rose in Western Australia.

Here in Australia, particularly the Margaret River region, the grape is often blended with Sémillon. Varietal styles, made from only the Sauvignon blanc grape, from Adelaide Hills and Padthaway have a style distinctive from our New Zealand neighbours and tend to be more ripe in flavor with white peach and lime notes and slightly higher acidity.

Characteristics

Depending on the climate, the flavor can range from aggressively grassy to sweetly tropical. Wine experts have used the phrase "crisp, elegant, and fresh" as a favorable description of Sauvignon blanc from the Loire

Sémillon is widely grown in Australia, particularly in the Hunter Valley north of Sydney, where for a long time it was known as "Hunter River Riesling". Four styles of Sémillon-based wines made there: a commercial style, often blended with Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc; a sweet style, after that of Sauternes; a complex, minerally, early picked style which has great longevity; and an equally high quality,dry style, which can be released soon after vintage, as a vat or bottle aged example. History

Much of the regions success dates back to the late 1800's when Italian immigrants Albert Credaro, Jimmy Meleri and Domenic Garuccio planted vines to make some of the good old table wines from the Old Country. Some learned gents took a punt on commercial production in the late 1960's, with the recommendation of the very learned Dr. John Gladstone in mind. The Doc pointed out the Margaret River region cool climate would give growers a fine yield of fruit to work with. Too right he was!
