Arguably Australia’s most famous wine region, the Barossa Valley hardly needs an introduction. Its reputation has been proven time and time again, and its wines have been celebrated on the world stage for decades, for very good reason. As South Aussies here at winedirect.com.au, we’re big fans of this local wine-producing superstar!
Located in South Australia, an hour or so northeast of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley was founded by German settlers, who took advantage of the warm climate of the region to produce fortified wine, which was popular in Australia at the time. The focus of the region shifted in the mid-20th century when there was a growing demand for premium, non-fortified wines, which are what the region is still known for today.

- Lienert Vineyards 'Sieben Klon' Barossa Shiraz 2020Special Price $40.00 Regular Price $50.00An exceptional wine, even more powerfully fruited than the 2019. Made by former Penfolds St Henri growers, the Lienert brothers. Each of the 7 distinct clones were harvested and fermented separately with the harvest date chosen to best allow each grape to express its best characters. For instance, the EVOS12 (Eden Valley clone) was harvested earlier than the others to allow for a beautiful perfume and liveliness in the final wine. Fermentation is done in tiny open top fermenters which are hand plunged up to 4 times a day. Certain clones are fermented cooler to better express delicate aromatics whilst some are plunged and pumped over heavily to achieve a more structural element. The trick is finding the right balance. - Lienert Vineyards Sieben Klon Grenache 2022Special Price $40.00 Regular Price $50.00The Lienert’s have been farming in the Barossa for 150 years and decided to add some vines to their property about 20 years ago. The first fruit from 2004 and 2005 vintages went straight to the pool room, aka into Penfold’s St Henri. Funnily enough they then planted a lot more vines and introduced many more clonal variations of Shiraz and Grenache. This Grenache is a brilliant amalgam of aromatics and pristine fruit, thanks to the careful clonal selection and extensive blending trials undertaken before settling on the final ‘just right blend’. Whilst called Sieben Klon (Seven Clones) the Grenache actually includes 8 separate clones. This vintage is a little lighter, yet more aromatically lifted than the 21 vintage. It’s a cracker. There’s old vine fruit from Greenock, the vines so old that the clonal selection is unknown. Matured in a combination of new French and older American oak, this is a stunning Barossa Shiraz offering dense black fruits, blue fruits, blackberries, coffee, graphite, chocolate, minerals, liquorice, spice, blueberries, cedar and firm tannins. - Lone Palm Vineyards Old Vine Barossa Shiraz 2022$60.00A stunning offering from Lone Palm sourced entirely from 3 small Barossa Vineyards planted in the 1950s and 60s. Vineyards are from the highly prized sub-districts of Ebenezer, Vine Vale and Nuriootpa. Older French and American oak is employed here to allow the fruit to shine, and stunning fruit it is. Satsuma plum, blueberry, dark cherry, spice, chocolate, liquorice and more on the go here. Dave Brooks from Halliday's Wine Companion sums this wine up beautifully, 'excellent fruit density, fine chocolatey tannin and layered spice and dark fruits on the finish'. Learn More
- Lone Palm Vineyards Old Vine Grenache 2022$60.00Serious, old vines Grenache this- with a degree of intensity you don’t always find in Grenache. As with the incredible first vintage which sold out in just a few months, the 22 is bolstered with the inclusion of some powerful, low yielding, old vine Shiraz.
