Willow Bridge continue to impress with their Reserve Tempranillo, and this latest release has just notched up 95 points from Halliday. It’s a juicy, expressive wine, showing vibrant red fruits, high acidity, dried orange peel, leather, spice, cherries, and a touch of liquorice. The palate finishes with waxy tannins. Equally at home enjoyed on its own or alongside food, it pairs beautifully with rich, meat-based dishes.
Situated 25kms from the ocean on the Western side of the Darling Ranges in the Geographe region in WA, the 420-acre property home to Willow Bridge Estate vineyard is the love child of Jeff and Vicki Dewar. They purchased the property in 1996 after Jeff decided following in his parent’s broad acre farming footsteps wasn’t for him. In 1997 they planted 100 acres of vines then another 50 acres two years later. First planted with Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the vineyards have since been bolstered with small blocks of Viognier and Tempranillo.

In the last 100 years Rioja, Spain has been planted in Mexico, New Zealand, South America, USA, South Africa, Australia, and Canada.

This might seem like a strange one, but I can honestly say that this combo really works. Usually, when you think of burgers you lean towards a beer, or even a nice glass of red. The freshness of the apple, spice coming through from the tomato jam, and the addition of pork had me leaning towards a Riesling.
