South Australia Chardonnay Wines

South Eastern Australia is the name of a wine GI (geographical indicator) in Australia, which covers an enormous expanse of land with varying climates and geographies. It includes the entire states of New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, as well as parts of Queensland and South Australia.

Within South Eastern Australia, you’ll find distinct wine regions such as the Hunter Valley, Mornington Peninsula and The Barossa Valley.

Given the vast geography of the region, wines labelled as coming from ‘South Eastern Australia’ will likely be made from grapes grown in multiple areas of the region. Otherwise, specific GIs are used (e.g. McLaren Vale, Yarra Valley etc). That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re of lesser quality, but these wines are unlikely to display the distinct characteristics of a more geographically defined region.
