The Hidden Sea Chardonnay 2016

Yummy stone fruits here with plenty of texture, cut into pleasing patterns by a line of citrus acidity. Lees stirring has added creaminess and there’s a fig note or two floating around as well. Little surprise Oliver Crawford is in charge here. Oliver is former chief winemaker of all Penfolds white wines, was chief wine maker at Devil’s Lair and GM at Vasse Felix. This is cracking Chardy at a silly price.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

The superb Stonehaven winery, which was mothballed briefly was resurrected by ex Hawthorn player Richie Vandenberg, whose family has a history of growing grapes in the Limestone Coast. Working with fruit from the Coonawarra, Padthaway, Wrattonbully, Robe, Mt Benson and Mt Gambier, Limestone Coast Wines has access the exceptional fruit and releases a good number of exceptionally good value for money wines under a number of their own labels, including The Hidden Sea and Enchiful.

Customer Reviews

A seamless wine, polished like a pebble in a riverbed. Great drinking.

The Hidden Sea Chardonnay 2016 – As with reds I reviewed a few weeks back, the wines are better than the whacky labels suggest. This is a really appealing Chardonnay of generous disposition, round and polished, probably helped by being more than 2 years old. The result is a seamless wine, polished like a pebble in a riverbed. Great drinking. 94 points. BUY.
