Stand with Ukraine Wine Dozen (incl. $100 Donation)

We'd like to thank all of the wineries whose generosity has made it possible for us to donate $100 from the sale of each dozen to Caritas Australia – Ukraine Appeal.

By buying one of these, you’ll be directly assisting the humanitarian aid and relief efforts in Ukraine. The founding shareholders of winedirect.com.au are of Ukrainian descent with their parents and grandparents having come to Australia after WW2. Both were born in Australia but grew up learning the language, history and culture of Ukraine.

Nearly a quarter of the population of 44 million people has been displaced by the conflict to date with over 3.7m people seeking refuge in neighbouring countries. $100 from the sale of each of these packs will directly assist children and families in need. Millions, including 1.5 million children, have been forced to flee their homes and millions more are in urgent need of supplies like food and water, medical attention and shelter.

To give you examples of how this will help…

  • You’ll be helping assist displaced families by providing legal and medical aid, meals, water, and hygiene supplies
  • Assisting with border crossings, helping people find friends and family, including information on how to avoid human trafficking
  • Psychological support, particularly for children who have experienced trauma

So please consider grabbing one of these packs today.

Have a listen to Stefan Lipkiewicz, one of the winedirect.com.au founders and directors, have a chat with Roo and Ditts on Triple M Adelaide about our efforts to raise money for this cause below.

    1 x Pasha McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018 (RRP $100.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
Gold Medal, 96pts Winestate, 95pts Ned Goodwin, 95pts Kim Brebach, 96pts Sam Kim
This is thrilling! It’s old-school but perfectly balanced. ‘Tis packed with uber ripe, suppurating black fruits, dark cherry, compote, notes of furniture polish and spice, black pepper, chocolate, tobacco, and leather. The richness is tamed with good acidity, providing a backbone for all that expressiveness to hang on to and in so doing, show to best effect. Stunning!
    1 x Mitolo Serpico Cabernet 2018 (RRP $89.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Sam Kim, 93pts Wine Advocate
A groundbreaking Aussie Cabernet in as much as it is made in the Amarone style, with grapes air dried for up to 8 weeks prior to fermentation. It is both concentrated and ethereal with florals and black tea on the nose – the palate awash with chocolate, coffee, cassis, blueberries, herbs, licorice and minerality. Double or triple decant a few hours before drinking.
    McLaren Vale, SA
    5 x Gold Medals, 96pts James Halliday, 94pts IWC
Whole bunch fruit from an exceptional, low yielding vineyard, is open fermented in mostly older French, Bugarian and American oak. We found blackberries, cherries, satsuma plum, liquorice and a perfume of cedary oak. Finishes with very fine tannins. Bloody lovely now and will only improve with age. Consistently one of the best Shiraz to come out of the McLaren Vale.
    Riverina, NSW
96pts and Gold Medal - 2021 Royal Adelaide Wine Show
Black fruits, blood plums, dark chocolate, allspice, jubes, coffee and woodsmoke make for a compelling and luxuriously ripe Shiraz experience. A big rich wine that works well with braised meats.
    Barossa Valley, SA
    95pts Sam Kim
The Lienert’s have been farming in the Barossa for 150 years and decided to add some vines to their property about 20 years ago. The first fruit from 2004 and 2005 vintages went straight to the pool room, aka into Penfold’s St Henri. Funnily enough they then planted a lot more vines and introduced many more clonal variations of Shiraz and Grenache. This Grenache is a brilliant amalgam of fragrance and grunt, thanks to the careful clonal selection and extensive blending trials undertaken before settling on the final ‘just right blend’. Whilst called Sieben Klon (Seven Clones) the Grenache actually includes 8 separate clones... as follows. BVRC38 – This is one of the nursery clones and has proved to be a great backbone, a bit of a goldilocks, Just right. Lovely red fruits, balance, mid weight and acidity. Simple and clean, not overly complex but blends well with everything... 30% of this clone was whole bunch fermented. Vine Vale Ancestor 1854 – This one is a bit more beastly, darker fruit spectrum and fuller richer palate, still plenty of subtlety but with some beautiful earthen tones. McLaren Vale High Sands – Without picking favourites this one is a beauty, lifted aromatics, mid weight, fine tannins, complex and saline edge, ocean mist. Ethereal Greenock Moppa Selection – Cuttings were taken from the Moppa foothills behind the town of Greenock. This clone is quite unique in its structure as well as noticeably darker colour than most, while still retaining a vibrant fruit character. Ebenezer Selection –This clone is elegant and complex, with a finely tuned tannin profile and lifted red fruit. Langhorne Creek Selection– This clone retains wonderful acidity and has a piercing fruit and aromatic profile, the odd one out as picked much earlier ~1.5-2 weeks before the others. Krondorf Selection– High end lifted fragrance and bouncy jubey fruit, as well as an underlying savouriness which rounds out the palate nicely.

    95pts Sam Kim
A celebration of old vines - this intense cuvée is crafted from vines with an average age of 50+ years. Fruit was hand picked and open fermented, sitting on skins for 10 days prior to pressing and transfer into French oak. The oak is 40% new, the balance 3 y.o. – ensuring enough high-quality oak is present to season the intense fruit without pulling focus from its glory. We found, flint, cranberries, raspberries, cherries, plum, chocolate, black tea, spice and minerality. A stunner.
    Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Sam Kim
A truly beautiful and fruit driven blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. The Grenache here brings spice, confected notes, raspberries, rhubarb and sour cherry. The Mataro offers chocolate, brooding brambles and other slightly angry things sourced from dungeons deep. The Shiraz brings blue and black fruits, chocolate and fine, fine tannins. It’s a mad mélange this, one we’ll tip our hat to, whilst asking for it to be filled.
    Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
3 x Gold Medals, 93pts Sam Kim, 93pts Kim Brebach
This is a rich, smooth and silken beast, replete with blackcurrant, brambles, fresh tobacco, and a whack of cedar. The palate is textual and offers excellent length. Has a long life ahead of it – worth decanting if you are going to drink it now.
    Langhorne Creek, SA
    93pts Kim Brebach
A beautifully fragrant and mouthwatering nose laden with violets, blackcurrants and dried oregano leads to a voluptuous palate. This is pristine, varietally perfect, medium bodied Cabernet. A joy to drink by itself and with lamb dishes.
    1 x Chalk Hill Vermentino 2021 (RRP $28.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
Sourced from a single vineyard in Willunga, this Vermentino is a crisp offering of laden citrus, sea spray, bay leaves and guava. Perhaps the perfect summer lunch accompaniment to salads and fish dishes.
    1 x Mr Mick Rosé 2020 (RRP $17.00)
    Clare Valley, SA
Gold Medal - 2020 Royal Adelaide Wine Show, Gold Medal, Top Gold and Trophy - Best Rose at the 2020 Clare Valley Wine Show
Light, juicy and slurpable. Playful but seriously good. Strawberries, cream, lychees, rose petal and white peach. Good acid and length. Tasty!
    Clare Valley, SA
    5x Trophies, 2 x Top Gold Medal, 2 x Gold Medal, 95pts Huon Hooke
Opens with a classic nose of lime, lemon and talcum powder. The acidity is high but well countered by a generous mouthfeel. The palate is awash with lemons and limes, length and persistence are both excellent. Tasty already and with at least a decade of improvement ahead of it.
