There are plenty of incredible sparkling wines out there, but real Champers, which has to come from the Champagne region in France (not to be confused with the town of Champagne, but don’t ask Matt about that), reigns supreme. Not only does it need to be from the designated region, but to earn the title of Champagne, it must adhere to strict standards including where and how the grapes are grown and pressed, and the carbonation needs to occur as a result of secondary fermentation in the bottle.

Usually made with Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay grapes, Champagne wine often exhibits flavours of citrus, toasted brioche, nuts, and sometimes even truffle and smokiness from those Pinot Noir grapes.
