Shimmering Shiraz: The Smoking Hot Christmas Chimney Edition

Here’s a pack stuffed with enough phat Shiraz to satisfy the most indulged of tongues but at a price skinny enough to see it slide down your chimney with ease. Martins Limited Shiraz has just picked up 97 points from Sam Kim. Fruits are blacks and blues, depth and length are superb, cedar and vanilla are a perfumed accompaniment to the fruit rich nose, and the tannins, polished, waxy and plentiful. Great with smoked meats! Introducing Red Deer Station’s Shiraz. This beast retails for $35 a bottle is packed with dense fruit and chewy tannins. Finniss River’s Reserve Shiraz (95pts James Halliday) is a big and opulent wine. It opens with a dusting of cocoa powder, is packed to the gunnels with deep, dark, brooding black fruits, and finishes with plenty of cedary goodness. Perfect with a baked ham. The Finniss Fleurieu Shiraz offers enveloping dark fruits with excellent sweetness of fruit, fine yet grippy tannins and a good dollop of aristocratic oak to boot. Goes perfec’ with a smoked Kransky. These are all decent value at their retail price, utterly compelling when bundled here for $199.

    Wines In This Pack
    McLaren Vale, SA
Gold Medal, 97pts Sam Kim, 94pts James Halliday, 95pts The Real Review, 95pts Bob Campbell
This is unequivocally an even better edition of the Martin’s than we have seen previously, which is perhaps no surprise given it is a product of the 2018 vintage. Again, we see relatively low alcohol for a big Aussie red which, perhaps counterintuitively, allows the wine to appear as more fruit dense and concentrated than it might if it were half a degree or a full degree more ‘potent’. Fruits are blacks and blues, depth and length are superb, cedar and vanilla are a perfumed accompaniment to the fruit rich nose, and the tannins, polished, waxy and plentiful. The overall package, outstanding!
    Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
    95pts James Halliday
Whole berries open fermented and then matured in French oak, 20% of which was new. This is a big and opulent wine, packed with flavour. This opens with a dusting of cocoa powder, is packed to the gunnels with deep, dark, brooding black fruits, and finishes with plenty of cedary goodness.
    Langhorne Creek, SA
    93pts Kim Brebach
A quality, medium bodied Shiraz sourced from 50 year old Langhorne Creek vines. Juicy red fruits are bolstered by good acidity. The wine finished with vanilla, spindles of oak and fine tannins.
    3 x Finniss River Shiraz 2017 (RRP $25.00)
    Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
    92pts Wine Showcase
Enveloping dark fruits including plum and chocolate here, with excellent sweetness of fruit. Plenty of fine yet grippy tannins and a good dollop of aristocratic oak to boot. Persistence and power is pretty amazing at this price point. Black as the ace of spades
