Adelaide Hills, SA Pinot Noir Wines
Thin-skinned and sensitive (but oh-so-loveable nonetheless), Pinot Noir is a notoriously tricky grape varietal to grow, so it’s only successfully produced in very specific cool-climate areas around the world.
Although South Australia is known for big, bold reds that can survive the Australian summers -- like Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon -- the Adelaide Hills area, which is much cooler and wetter than the wine regions surrounding it, offers the ideal climate for growing Pinot Noir.
Originally from the French Burgundy region, Pinot Noir will tend to be light to medium bodied, with typical aromas and flavours like cherries, raspberries and strawberries. Pinot Noir made in the Adelaide Hills, which is located around 45 minutes from the heart of Adelaide, is no exception.
