Maligned by some and revered by others, Pinot Noir wine certainly is divisive, but we all love it at WD. The truth is, it’s a bugger of a grape to grow well, that’s in the handful of regions that can actually grow it well, and it's harder still to turn into something worth drinking. But when you combine grapes that have been lovingly tended with a winemaker worth their salt, something ethereal, almost transcendent transpires. We have spent many an eve discussing life, the universe and everything with a bottle of Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula or, indeed, Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir at the table... and the answers to the questions posed are always more profound in the presence of this most noble of grape varieties.

Is Pinot Noir red or white?
Most Chardonnay is fermented dry.
Is Chardonnay sparkling?
Both. While Pinot Noir is a red gape, it is leaned on heavily for the production of white sparkling wine, including Champagne, and dry red table wines.
Is Pinot Noir better warm or cold?
If it is sparkling, then cold for sure but perhaps not fridge cold at 5 degrees. Most sparkling wine looks best at between 6 and 10 degrees. Dry red Pinot can take a chill as it is low in tannin. Somewhere around 15 to 20 degrees is often the sweet spot.
Does Pinot Noir need to breathe?
Like all red wines anthocyanins bind up aromatics, especially in the wine’s youth. By breathing the wine you allow these aromatics to become available to your olfactories. This means you can smell much more of what is going on in the glass which in turn enhances the wine’s flavours.
What is the best Pinot Noir in Australia?
The one you like most is always the best! Pinot from the Mornington Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Tasmania and Yarra Valley and the Picardy Pinot Noir of Pemberton are particularly well regarded.
What food goes well with Pinot Noir?
Pinot Noir pairs well with dishes featuring duck, mushrooms, cherries, goat and other milder cheeses. Bigger editions can go well with lamb.

Expressive, grounded, powerful, playful. This is an exceptional Pinot Noir sourced from a single vineyard in Charleston. Red and purple aromatics lead to a powerful yet aquiline palate offering roses, cherries, violets, spice, must and toastiness. The palate is long and the tannin finish fine. The acidity elevates the fruit. Exceptional. Learn More
