Stunning dry grown, old vine Barossa Grenache, this. Probably should be upwards of $100 a bottle. Incredibly expressive black and red fruits, soul stirring aromatics and a wonderful spiced and cedary finish. Magnificent.
Mecklen is a tiny, high end Barossa producer with wines made by legendary former Jacob's Creek winemaker Bernard Hickin. The crown jewel of their vine quality is a superlative, 100-year-old, dry-grown Grenache block. Situated at a cool 250-metre elevation with afternoon-shaded eastern slopes, these ancient vines yield deeply concentrated, small-crop fruit year in, year out. Mecklen's old vines produce intensely aromatic, balanced fruit that effortlessly bridges old-school Barossa depth with bright, modern elegance.
