Rampaging Rangas: McLaren vs Barossa Grenache and Blends Edition
Grenache and blends are so hot right now... fruit prices are exceeding those realised for Shiraz, something that would have been unthinkable even 5 years ago. Why? Cause we’ve finally realised that we make world class Grenache and blends here in Aus, especially in the McLaren and Barossa.
Check out this article we wrote if you’d like more info on that front here
With that in mind, here’s a straight Grenache from the Barossa vs. one from the Vale, and a Grenache dominant blend from both regions too... All four are stunning...

Wines In This Pack
McLaren Vale, SA
93pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Sam Kim, 92pts James Halliday
From old bush vines planted in 1947. Dry grown, hand pruned and picked, these vines produce exceptionally concentrated fruit. White pepper, kirsch and cherries in a medium bodied yet muscular and fruit intense setting. Plenty of fine tannins to finish. Drink now or cellar for 5-8 years.
Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Sam Kim
A truly beautiful and fruit driven blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. The Grenache here brings spice, confected notes, raspberries, rhubarb and sour cherry. The Mataro offers chocolate, brooding brambles and other slightly angry things sourced from dungeons deep. The Shiraz brings blue and black fruits, chocolate and fine, fine tannins. It’s a mad mélange this, one we’ll tip our hat to, whilst asking for it to be filled.
McLaren Vale, SA
Trophy, Gold Medal, 96pts James Halliday, 95pts Wine Pilot, 95pts The Real Review
Young and super tight, this GSM has a long future ahead of it. Drop it in a decanter or vroom it through a vinturi if you are going to drink it now. The good stuff as follows… blue fruits, black tea, cherries, plums, spice, musk, focused acidity and silky tannins. In the bad stuff column… nuttin!
