Purple Hands Ancestor Vine Grenache 2019

Special Price $85.00 Regular Price $90.00
Planta Circa’s Grenache Vines were planted sometime in the 1880’s, making them some of the oldest living Grenache vines on the planet. Soft on opening, this breathes to reveal concentrated fruit and supreme acidity. We found raspberries, cherry, spice and acidity rolling into dried herbs and fine tannins. Delicious now and will drink beautifully over the next decade.

Doing vintage, you can’t help but have permanently purple hands. The red colouring and tannins seep into your pores and as your hands crack and glaze, become a temporary and changing tattoo, a momento of working your hands in wine. The two purple hands are Craig Stansborough, chief winemaker for Grant Burge, and Mark Slade. They have a small patch of Shiraz near Williamstown, a cooler part of the Barossa. They buy in Grenache and Mataro. They source Cabernet, Grenache and Shiraz from a tiny vineyard planted in the 1800’s. Quality of the wines is utterly exceptional, made with purple hands and guaranteed to stain your tongue black. James Halliday rated Purple Hands Wines as one of the 10 best new 5 star wineries in his 2013 guide.

You might remember the story of the Emperor’s New Clothes - in which a couple of impoverished tailors convince a preening peacock Emperor that they can make him the most fabulous set of threads in the universe. They also tell him that those too stupid or unsuited to their roles within the court won’t be able to see them. They don’t actually make any clothes and the King is too insecure to call them on it, as is his court and the populace who he parades in front of starkers. Nice kit champ! #html-body [data-pb-style="61D2AFF700736"]{justify-content: flex-start; display: flex; flex-direction: column; background-posit ... Read Full Article

You gotta love the classics - a true classic will be a true classic forever! It, like so many classics, has been rediscovered over the last little while and is enjoying a resurgence in popularity that is seeing it bust out from cult hero status at the local pub open-mic night to front and centre in stadiums, thrusting and twerking on its own headline tour. The humble varietal Garnacha or Grenache as we know it.
