Four genuinely delicious drink now reds for your consideration. Zilzie’s gold medal winning Coonawarra Cab conjures juicy red fruits and blackcurrants, and finishes with fine tannins. St John’s masterful Barossa blend has Grenache bringing spice, savoury characters, cherries and lip-smacking raspberry. The Mataro underpins these with brooding dark fruits and smoked meats. The Shiraz supports with structural tannins, acidity and chocolate. Thompson’s Margaret River ripper is a complex wine offering dark fruits, dark chocolate, tomato leaf, plums, white pepper and violets. Nugan’s Passo Shiraz is made in the Appassimento style made famous by the Amarone wines of Valpollicella. High-quality fruit is picked and then air-dried before fermentation, building concentration, colour, smoothness and richness. This one is excellent, juicy, rich with an incredibly smooth palate and great depth of flavour. There are blue and black fruits, pudding spices, plenty of acid and fine tannins.
