Pizza and Pasta Reds incl. Mitolo Serpico Cabernet

Pizza and pasta shouldn’t be thought of as ‘less than’ – they can absolutely be gourmet and, in terms of the sheer pleasure they can deliver, are hard to go past. We reckon they deserve better than a tinny of draught or a bottle of bowler’s crumb. So here’s a pack primed to top off your fave pizza or pasta perfectly – 4 cracking wines to chew on, as you would a perfectly woodfired crust, plus a bottle of Mitolo’s exceptional 2018 Serpico Cab, a wine the tasting panel all found it hard to go pasta.

    1 x Mitolo Serpico Cabernet 2018 (RRP $89.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Sam Kim, 93pts Wine Advocate
A groundbreaking Aussie Cabernet in as much as it is made in the Amarone style, with grapes air dried for up to 8 weeks prior to fermentation. It is both concentrated and ethereal with florals and black tea on the nose – the palate awash with chocolate, coffee, cassis, blueberries, herbs, licorice and minerality. Double or triple decant a few hours before drinking.
    South Australia
    91pts Kim Brebach
Big and bold and black-strappy Shiraz fashioned to enjoy now or over the next few years. It’s black with plenty of sweet fruit and fluffy furry tannins to finish. Pair it up with some braised lamb or roast beef.

Sorry, this product is not available individually, only in the pack below.

    Barossa Valley, SA
    Gold Medal, 90pts Sam Kim
A perfumed, red fruited, gold medal winning Barossa Shiraz. Dark berries and spice, with red fruit flavours ceding to black. There is also toasty oak, good acidity and fine tannin.
    Coonawarra, SA
    Gold Medal, 91pts Sam Kim
A beautifully mid-weight, gold-winning Coonawarra Cabernet. Juicy red fruits, mint and blackcurrants create a mouthwatering effect, bolstered as they are by ever so slightly bolshy acidity – the finish buttoned-down primly with fine tannins.
    3 x Johnston Shiraz 2020 (RRP $20.00)
    South Australia
Black in colour this is a fairly well-fruited beast. There are blue and black fruits, mocha, spice, French oak and plenty of chalky tannins to finish. Very polished and satisfying. Perfect with something meaty.

Zilzie’s gold winning 2018 Barossa Shiraz is a perfumed, red fruited, gold medal winning beauty. Dark berries and spice, with red fruit flavours ceding to black. There is also toasty oak, good acidity and fine tannin. Their Coonawarra Cab, also a gold winner, offers juicy red fruit, fruit accentuating acidity and a plentiful tannin finish. Johnston’s Shiraz is perfectly poised, a study in dark fruits and general smoothery and the Curtis Heritage Shiraz is a flavour bomb with ripe fruits climbing all over toasty oak. Finally, one bottle of Mitolo’s Serpico Cab, which is both concentrated and ethereal with florals and black tea on the nose – the palate awash with chocolate, coffee, cassis, blueberry, herbs, liquorice and minerality.
