Old school in the best of ways according to Campbell Mattinson, who notes this wines substantial, bold and inky black fruits, coffee, dark chocolate and cream, and its slick of authoritative tannins. It is ripe and oaky, but not so much that the gorgeous fruit is prevented from shining. A gloriously engaging mouthfeel already which will also improve with cellaring for a decade or more.
Piramimma are a family-owned McLaren Vale grower and winemaker who have been producing wine since 1892. Initially a fortified specialist, they are now renowned for robust, old-school reds, led by Shiraz, along with Petit Verdot and Tannat.
They remain committed to crafting excellent wines from their extensive estate vineyards and have been named Australian Wine Producer of the Year on six occasions at the world’s largest wine show, AWC Vienna.
This might seem like a strange one, but I can honestly say that this combo really works. Usually, when you think of burgers you lean towards a beer, or even a nice glass of red. The freshness of the apple, spice coming through from the tomato jam, and the addition of pork had me leaning towards a Riesling.
The King of comfort food for a cold winter's night? If not, time for a coup. A classic tummy-warmer.
