Pioneer Road Clare Valley Riesling 2017

Achingly pure and pale essence of Riesling, with lemon, lime and a hint of lychee. The structure and acidity are superb… This is a classic Riesling which is delicious now and will cellar beautifully too.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

A pretty big wine company this one, producing about 65,000 cases of wine from the McLaren Vale, Barossa, Clare and Langhorne Creek. Tasty and good value for money seems to be the ethos.

Salivating and mouthwatering

Pioneer Road 2017 Riesling - Salivating and mouthwatering, and a light smatter of modern minerality with perfect table manners. 94 points.

Fairly typical Clare Riesling

Pioneer Road Clare Valley Riesling 2017 – The price is right, and most of the wine is fairly typical Clare Riesling except for the finish which goes a bit fuzzy. What I mean is that it doesn’t quite finish clean and crisp. Still, it’s worth 90 points which makes it a BUY at the price

Nice acidic, minerally length

I hadn’t heard of Pioneer Road until I received this Riesling in one of the WineDirect Packs so I did a bit of googling and read that they produce the wine in conjunction with Project Wine in Langhorne Creek. Together they have produced a 'lil gem that sings the typical virtues of the Clare Valley.

As a teacher, I am embracing the 'wine-down' of the year most days after school. I fired up the record player and listened to You am I’s Hourly Daily with a bottle of the Pioneer Road Clare Valley Riesling. It is perky and cheery, comforting and familiar yet there is great depth to it. Have a listen, it is an underrated album that can cheer you up or let you indulge in melancholy. The wine does have a nice acidic, minerally length to it with the lemon and lime not being as dominant as you would expect as it has a softness on the palate where a pear flavour is prominent. I would be keen to put a few aside as I’d be interested to see this fall into a world of vegemite on toast, buttery goodness in years to come.
