Picardy Pemberton Shiraz 2016

Special Price $30.00 Regular Price $32.00
If you are into Rhone wines, this is the Aussie Shiraz for you. Medium bodied with a slightly richer texture than we were expecting based on our experience of previous vintages. Pepper, spice, earth and florals here along with smoked meats, spice and plentiful tannins. Good now with a decant, should be a ripper in 5-10 years.

Picardy grow wines old school, with no irrigation, hand pruning and picking and around 3 tonne per acre fruit load. Fermentation is carried out relatively cool, at 28-32 degrees c to maximize fruit freshness and eliminate the possibility of stewiness in the finished wine. As per the Picardy mould, it is approachable in youth but designed to build layers of complexity with age.

Heading south from the well-known Margaret River area (and you should – it's a lovely drive), you'll come across Pemberton tucked into the towering trees of the neighbouring forests. Things grow well here, so why not grape vines? History The soil is so good, in fact, local vignerons use a lot of tough love on the vines to keep them producing. Aroma characters can range from violets to berries (usually dark as opposed to red), chocolate, espresso and black pepper. Moroccan meatballs, tagine of caramelised onions and eggplant with roasted cauliflower
Moroccan flavours are some of my favourite. Generally, in common with Italian, Indian and many other cuisines, the food choices depend on what's local, in season and cheap. Moroccan food for me has the perfect blend of exciting spices and aromas, fresh herbs and accompaniments and the permission to make food organically sweet.
