Picardy Pemberton ‘Merlimont’ Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc 2017

$40.00
Merlimont is produced from the same vineyard that produces Picardy’s Merlot, Cab, Cab Franc blend. It then spends extra time in oak to soften and develop texture. On first opening it is deceptively soft, round, cuddly and quaffable, but as it opens it becomes more structured, linear and intense. Bizarre, perhaps, but not uncommon with Picardy wines. Right now, this offers cherries, liquorice, plum and cedary oak. Decant well if drinking now and enjoy with lamb. Alternately, chuck it away for a decade.

Generally this wine is around half Merlot and a quarter each Cab and Cab Franc. As per the generally Picardy lifecycle, this blend is drinkable in its youth but should increase in complexity for 10 years. The vines only carry around 3 tonnes per acre, are hand pruned and picked and unirrigated.

Visting

Visitors should be ready to get outdoors and enjoy the landscape and coasts. It's not every day you can climb an 80 metre tree, after all.
