A few years back Max Allen suggested Grenache might be our best warm climate variety, even more so than Shiraz. Arguably Grenache more faithfully expresses terroir than Shiraz, copes with less water and handles heat better, making it ideal for an industry coming to grips with climate change.

6 amazing Grenache. 2 vintages of Heirloom Alcala- one of which won the Decanter Trophy as best Grenache in the world, plus the 21 vintage Alcala which Halliday scored 95. Both are magnificent. There’s Dandelion’s Treasure Trove Grenache which the Halliday Wine companion describes as having both sublime fruit and (a supportive) structural latticework. There’s Brothers at War Peacekeeper Grenache which was just pipped for a trophy at the Adelaide Wine Show.
