Cabernet From Coonawarra, Clare, McLaren Vale & Geographe

Cabernet From Coonawarra, Clare, McLaren Vale & Geographe

We'd been fresh outta the good stuff from the Coonawarra for a while. Fortunately we've sorted that with an impeccable old vine Reserve. We've paired that up with Dowie Doole's 96 point lovely, Kilikanoon's cracker from the Clare and a stunner from Geographe in WA.

Leconfield's 96pt Reserve Cabernets – the '21 was our fave Cab last year, this '22 Reserve is our fave this year. Magical perfume, structure and fruit.

Willowbridge Coat of Arms Cabernet – medium bodied and wonderfully aromatic - plums, blackcurrant, cacao, black tea and spice.

Dowie Doole Architect McLaren Cabernet – 96pts, heartbreakingly pure fruit, brilliant structure - spindles of cedary oak.

Kilikanoon Meymans Cabernet – Rich, bold, tomato leaf, tobacco, blue fruits. black tea and purple prose once you've had that first sip :-)

12 seriously stunning Cabs worth $714 for just $265.

    McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Kim Brebach, 95pts Wine Pilot, 94pts Sam Kim
Only tiny quantities are made of this wine, which is the product of the finest of Dowie Doole's A-grade Cabernet fruit from each vintage. '21 being an incredible vintage has elevated this even further. The previous vintage picked up 96 points from Kim Brebach who said, "Decades ago, I had the privilege of tasting a group of Barolos and Barbarescos made by Giovanni Gaia. These wines had layers of deep flavour, ranging from smoked meats and old leather to licorice, gravel dust and tar. The Dowie Doole Architect reminded me of those wines because it had some of those characters, even if the expression was more restrained. Give it time, and I think you’ll be richly rewarded. If the price seems steep, keep in mind that a Barbaresco from Gaia will set you back $600." The '21 is better again than the exceptional 2019 vintage, and represents a barrel selection chosen from only A-grade parcels from the old, dry-grown Blewitt Springs vineyard. There's black fruits, licorice, richness, density and layers. A stunning wine that will live for a very long time

97pts Huon Hooke, 96pts Ray Jordan, 96pts Kim Brebach, 96pts Halliday

A first release Reserve Cabernets from Leconfield. Huon Hooks gave it 97 points, marking this as one of the finest reds he's reviewed in the last year.

Kim Brebach wrote, 'The best red I’ve tasted in the last 6 months'. - 96pts

This blend sees Leconfield's finest Cab Sauv co-fermented with Merlot and Cab Franc, resulting in the perfectly harmonious integration of flavours. Deep in colour; the nose is fresh, and bright, offering dark fruit aromas, cedar, cigar box and dark chocolate. It balances richness with elegance beautifully and finishes with perfectly modulated fine tannins. Exceptional already, and has a long future ahead of it.

    Clare Valley, SA
96pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Sam Kim

An exceptional single vineyard Cab from one of Kilikanoon's original blocks. There's greater fruit weight and complexity here than in any previous release. Tobacco, blackcurrant, tomato leaf, thyme, sage and plenty more on the go here. Give it a good decant end enjoy.

    Geographe, WA
93pts James Halliday, 93pts Ray Jordan

Medium to full bodied, and delightfully aromatic, this offers blackcurrant, plums, black tea, carob, cacao, salinity, thyme and spice. The fruit is high energy and there is plenty of tannin to soak up any lamb or beef juices. Lovely already, absolutely worthy of decanting, and has more than a decade of improvement ahead of it.
