Barossa VS Challengers: An Incredible Shiraz Pack
Barossa leads this dozen in every sense — depth, structure, and serious critic backing — supported by two carefully selected, high-quality Shiraz from Adelaide Hills and Langhorne Creek.
The core Barossa lineup is built for lovers of bold, structured Shiraz. Greenock Estate Shiraz 2018 delivers deep, concentrated fruit with multiple 96-point reviews confirming its pedigree, while Yaldara Grand Cuvee 2023 brings richness and opulence from one of the region’s historic names. Murray Street Red Label Shiraz Cabernet 2018 (96 Barossa Show, 95 Sam Kim) adds serious structure and polish, and 3 Rings Barossa Shiraz 2023 (92 Sam Kim) rounds out the Barossa base with a generous, immediately approachable style.
Outside the Barossa, the pack widens in appeal without losing focus. Manser 5 Clones Shiraz 2022 from Adelaide Hills brings a cooler-climate expression — lifted aromatics, fine structure, and a more detailed, elegant profile — while Red Deer Shiraz 2022 from Langhorne Creek adds plush fruit weight and softness, broadening the stylistic range of the dozen.
At 96 and 95 points respectively, both sit comfortably in premium territory — just a little more lifted, fragrant, and finesse-driven in style.
The result is a tightly curated Shiraz collection that balances power with approachability, and regional intensity with finesse — anchored by strong scores and built for immediate enjoyment or short-term cellaring.

Big, bold, and packed with flavour… but with a layer of polish that keeps everything in check. The nose is classic Barossa: ripe plum and blackberry, a lick of licorice, mocha, coffee grounds, and a lifted, perfumed edge that gives it real appeal. The palate delivers in spades. Dense, concentrated fruit wrapped around fine oak, with plush texture and serious generosity. Think dark plum, black cherry, a touch of savoury spice, and a rich dark chocolate finish that lingers. This is a cracking example of a strong Barossa vintage— opulent, satisfying, and built for lovers of full-bodied reds.
This picked up 96 points at the Barossa Wine Show - second, by just 1 point to the Wolf Blass 'The Master' which retails for $350 a bottle. In the same class being judged, it out-pointed Yalumba's The Signature, Henschke's Apple Tree, Grant Burge Nebu, Hentley Farm H Block, and plenty more. It's just approaching prime drinking now. There's a superb array of fruit here, with black cherries, tobacco, black olive, graphite, coffee and vanilla all detectable and delectable.
This is the seventh release of their flagship ‘Hills Shiraz and as usual you’re hit immediately with a waft of black and blue fruits and the trademark white pepper that announces this wine as a “hills monster". The palate is full bodied and it’s here you see even more layers of complexity and intrigue, no doubt due to the co-fermentation of 5 different clones scattered throughout this unique vineyard. This will offer years of cellaring but to enjoy now, bust out the decanter for an hour to release all of this lovely flavour.
