JL have been cranking out wine since 1711 and this premium bottling offers stone fruits, creaminess, minerality and that special creamy-meets-cheesy continuum you get when high quality fruit spends time on yeast solids in barrel. Just cracking Riesling here... The Gomersal is a lime laden lovely and gold winner from the Adelaide Show. The Curator offers lime and grapefruit, citrus blossom and pith. Claymore's Horse is just as elegant and racy as the name implies and the Jeanneret Sevenhill is a 96 point stunner - ethereal, citrus-laden and powerful. Finally, the Vickery Castine Hill is magnificent - it is Huon Hook's equal highest rated Clare Riesling from the 2020 vintage, from 67 reviewed. He says, '...superbly fresh and aromatic nose of fresh-cut flowers, lemon juice and pith, honey and citrus blossoms, the palate super-fine and delicate in its structure but marvellously intense in flavour, the acidity perfectly balanced and the finish very long and seamless, with perfect line. The finish is very dry and has a whisper of tannin assisting the dryness. A delicious wine, and one that should continue to age superbly'. Learn More

Sometimes only a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc will do. So here are six exceptional examples for you to have a crack at, from WA, Coonawarra and the Adelaide Hills.

Picardy’s Sauv Blanc Sem (85% SB) is superb and age-worthy. Three distinct clones of Sauv Blanc are used along with two different yeast strains. On opening it seems soft and delicate, but as it airs, minerality, guava, lime, passionfruit and all manner of complexities emerge. Deep Wood's trophy-winning Margaret River SSB is also a cracker, as persistent as it is aromatic and laden with citrus and tropicals. The Chain of Ponds SB is crisp and offers a lovely mix of greenery and passionfruit.

The Riposte, made by the legendary Tim and Nick Knappstein, is textural, succulent and pungent; a joy to drink. Howard are major growers in the Adelaide Hills and supply substantial quantities of fruit to what are arguably the two best known producers of SB in the region. This, their own bottling, is of course excellent too. Finally, the Cape Jaffa SB is also lovely with tropical fruits, citrus and more at play.

We love Grenache here at WD, probably because in Aus, particularly SA where we live, we do Grenache as well as, maybe even better than, anywhere else in the world. In this doz you'll be getting Heirloom's 24 Alcala, perhaps the best Grenache, from the best place on earth to grow it, McLaren Vale. Dandelion's flagship, 3 gold winning and 96-point Faraway Tree Grenache. Curtis' 96-point, old vine $80 a bottle stunner. Lone Palm's 95-point old vine beauty which is spicy and rich with gravelly tannins. The Treasure Trove is a multi-award winning stunner, again from Dandelion, and Purple Hands' GSM which seems to pick up a gold at every show it is entered into... 4 so far.

We've got Touriga, Grenache, Tempranillo, Mataro, Montepulciano, Negroamaro and Aglianico happening here, and a smidge of Shiraz in the Kilikanoon GSM. We love Chardy here at WD, well, most of us do, the ones with good taste... and if you are like most of us, this might just be the pack for you. There's 4 bottles each of the Solaris Adelaide Hills Chardy, a textural lovely replete with ripe and pendulous stonefruits along with rockmelon, vanilla, crème brûlée and brioche. The Dowie Chard, from an elevated, low yielding and sandy soiled single vineyard in Blewitt Springs is also textural, creamy and packed with flavours. Crackers here like Mitchell Kalmar - a $50 a bottle, single vineyard Shiraz, Deep Woods SBS - a trophy winner from Margaret River. Showblock Rosie, a 95 point, $85 a bottle blend from McLaren Vale and Greenock Estate's Sieger old vine Barossa Shiraz. Retail on this one is $50 and it represents incredible value. We reckon there are a couple of Barossa producers who'd offer this wine at $100 or more.

When Pinot is good, it's absolutely magical... and generally terrifyingly expensive. Common refrains of inveterate Pinot drinkers include 'that's bloody good for $30', and the slightly unconvincing 'nice Pinot', uttered with equal parts relief and lament, 'cos it's decent and tastes like Pinot, but doesn't offer that ethereal, magical, sense-enveloping and expanding magic that Pinot can deliver, albeit frustratingly infrequently. Leading the way, the Picardy, an 11 clone masterpiece with most of the clones sourced direct from Grand Cru growers in Burgundy and most of those retained by the Pannell's for use in Picardy Pinot only. Little wonder this is one of the most fancied Pinot in the country at the moment. Next up Heirloom's Velvet Fog, a powerful, almost muscular wine which is elevated by its nuanced red fruit perfume. Riposte's Dagger is light to medium bodied with delicate aromatics and the Solaris is another Adelaide Hills Pinot with plenty of flavour and an excellent texture.
