Oliver’s Taranga Small Batch Mencia 2019
Special Price $27.00 Regular Price $35.00
Oliver’s are one of just a handful growers of Mencia in Australia. Mencia is a Spanish variety offering florals, red and black fruits. The best examples are superb young, yet also age well. The Oliver’s is medium bodied with spice, cherries, blackberries and plentiful fine tannins. An absolute joy to drink now it should improve for up to a decade.

The Oliver’s have been growing grapes in the Vale since the 1840’s only recently stepping into the world of winemaking. The bulk of their grapes go to big company producers hungry for top end fruit. This wine is dedicated to Don ‘DJ’ Oliver, the 5th generation and current caretaker of the prized Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards. Born in post-war McLaren Vale, as a young boy after school Don would ride the family’s Clydesdales bareback to the stables after helping out in the vineyards. Don’s impressive viticultural work saw him receive the inaugural McLaren Vale Grape Growers Association ‘Excellence in Viticulture’ Trophy.
