From Coonawarra, an OG! Katnook first planted Chardonnay in 1971, but it wasn’t until 1980 that their first commercial release emerged. Over 40 years on, the 2022 vintage shows the full measure of that commitment. A gold medal winner, wild fermented, pressed to oak, and lees-stirred for texture and creaminess. Expect stonefruit, hazelnut, cream, and spice in a beautifully layered glass.

This is Hirsch Hill's flagship Chardonnay, estate grown in the Toolangi sub-region of the Yarra Valley. A cracking Chardy offering florals, green apple, spice, hazelnut, stonefruit and more. Plenty of acid here, a creamy palate and judicious use of French oak make this an almost complete expression of cool climate Chardonnay. The only thing that can make it better is time. Decant before drinking or cellar.

The mild to cool 2022 growing season was exceptional for Coonawarra Chardonnay. Small quantities of fruit were pressed straight to oak, 20% of which was new. From there, wild fermentation and lees stirring to build texture and creaminess was employed every couple of weeks. Flavours and aromas here are of stonefruit, hazelnut, cream and spice.
