We love Grenache here at WD, perhaps because we do Grenache as well as, maybe even better than anywhere else in the world. In this doz you'll be getting Heirloom's 22 Alcala, from a stunning single vineyard, and winner of Decanter Mag's best Grenache in the World Trophy. Dandelion's flagship, 3 gold winning and 96-point Faraway Tree Grenache. Curtis' 96-point, old vine, $80 a bottle stunner. Lone Palm's 95-point, old vine beauty which is spicy and rich with gravelly tannins. The Sieben Klon multi colonal Grenache fashioned by former Penfolds St Henri growers and Purple Hands GSM which seems to pick up a gold at every show it is entered into... 4 so far..
If you love Grenache, even if you just like it, this pack is very worthy of your consideration.
Candied raspberries dance around a core of dark fruits filled with cherries. An underlying richness leads to a length that doesn’t out stay it’s welcome. Crafted from 120+ year old vines out of McLaren Vale like it’s predecessor it treads the fine line between power and finesse.
6 x Gold Medal, 1 x Trophy - Best Grenache in the World at Decanter Wine Awards
Another incredible Alcala Grenache – which has just picked up the Decanter World Wine Awards Grenache of the Year Trophy. First in a field of 89 entries from all over the world. Ripe plush fruits of strawberry and cherry without a hint of jamminess eats perfectly cedary French oak and gives you back this perfectly balanced and engaging, world-class wine.
95pts Sam Kim, 95pts Kim Brebach, 95pts Decanter Magazine
Serious, old vines Grenache this- with a degree of intensity you don’t always find in Grenache. As with the incredible first vintage which sold out in just a few months, the 22 is bolstered with the inclusion of some powerful, low yielding, old vine Shiraz. The tannins are plentiful and savoury, the fruits black, flecked with reds and tightly coiled. Needs decanting, Officially awesome!
A deep and intense wine packed with red fruits, spice and cedar, with exceptional length and depth of fruit. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, and sourced entirely from Dandelion's own Firehawk Farm vineyard, which is one of the very best in McLaren Vale. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 10 years.
New World take on an Old World fave. Still showing the signature Grenache trademarks on the nose with aromatic dark raspberries and red cherries, you might even find a little aniseed and other spice notes once it has had some time to open up. The palate offers an array of juicy red berry fruits and oh so subtle hints of vanilla with a touch of toasted cocoa even, little gifts given from the French Oak. Slightly grippy tannin to finish, so that wonderful fruit doesn't slide past you too quickly. Have a bit of fun and chill slightly in the warmer months!
Gold - Royal Adelaide Wine Show, 94pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Qwinereviews.com, 2 x Gold Medal
The first GSM released by Purple Hands with previous editions having led with Mataro. From our perspective, also the best Grenache blend they have released to date and one of their very best wines overall. Fantastic fragrance here, along with spice, redcurrant, plum, chocolate, cedar and more. Has a tensile aspect which gives this life and lift in a fashion which very few wines can achieve. Exceptional length and a total joy to drink.
