Flash Stash of No Pash Rash Grenache

Sometimes you just want a wine that's a little lower in tannin than you are likely to find in a young Shiraz or Cabernet… but still with exceptional fruit and acidity … a wine where the fruits are world class but the finish doesn’t leave you feeling like your palate has pash rash. That wine is Grenache or maybe a blend of Grenache with a spoon of Shiraz and a kiss of Mataro.

    No Pash Rash Grenache
A month or so back we crafted a delicious pack of Grenache and blends and put it on the website but we forgot to promote it... and it was still one of our best selling packs for the month. We hear you! There are two Grenache & blends packs this month and we're delighted you love this long unfancied variety just as much as we do. The two biggest (but by no means aggressive) wines here are the GSM's... Yaldara with its blue fruits and confectionary from the Grenache, along with brooding darkness and grunt from the Mataro. Dandelion's Menagerie with a trophy and 8 gold medals has loads of anise, wood smoke, hay, red apple and black fruits and a lovely balance of sweet and savoury. Hamilton's Marion Grenache is light to mid weight, with notes of tarragon, fennel and a brooding ferrous-ness which, as it breathes and opens, reveals plenty of delicious cherries. Their Burton's Grenache from a vineyard planted back in '47 is exceptionally concentrated in a medium bodied setting with white pepper, kirsch and cherries. Colab's first ever Grenache is a revelation... we looked at over 50 wines in a marathon sitting of the tasting panel and this was wine of the day. This is medium bodied with lifted and perfumed red fruits and is perfectly balanced. The fruit is intense but in no way dense, primarily in red fruit territory with a nod to blue. It is a stunning Grenache, as is the Curtis Limited, a superbly fine boned and taut yet generously fruited McLaren Vale Grenache. There’s a lot of blue fruit here, along with spice and a hint of confection and exceptional length. This is properly classy kit which we reckon will improve with cellaring for 10-15 years, such is its structure and power of fruit. So there you have it; any number of opportunities to be gently seduced by one of the classiest varieties going around.
