Six most excellent alternative wines from across the globe, including Mclaren Vale, Apulia, the Barossa Valley and Frankland River. Ferngrove’s Trophy winning magical Malbec conjures inky black and blue fruits, robust tannins and superb fruit intensity. We found blackberries, spice, satsuma plum and more. Pindarie’s Small Block Barossa Montepulciano is a medium bodied wine packing big wine fruit intensity, brimming with black and red fruits, spice and fine tannins. Sweet and savoury are beautifully balanced and the palate offers an intriguing minerality which tapers into fine tannins. Hastwell and Lightfoot’s Tempranillo is complex yet soft with dark fruit and spice, hidden depths revealing themselves with air. Ca’Botta’s Rubicondo is a blend of air-dried Corvina and Rondinella and a little Merlot. It offers rhubarb, blue fruits, spice and cedar. Fruit sweetness is excellent and balanced by just a suggestion of bitterness. Conte’s Primitivo is a well-structured wine, deserving of a solid protein match. As a variety, it is genetically similar to Zinfandel, and is beautifully structured, with blue fruits, plums, oregano, liquorice, cherries and spice. The length is excellent and it opens up over 5-6 hours so consider decanting or taking your time with it. The Curtis Limited Grenache is superbly fine boned and taut yet generously fruited McLaren Vale Grenache. Definitely give it a rip in a decanter before you get into it. There’s a lot of blue fruit here, along with spice and a hint of confection and exceptional length.
