Dandelion Firehawk Farm McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018
97pts Kim Brebach, 2 Gold Medals
This is just the second release of Firehawk Farm which is produced from Dandelion’s finest vineyard. There is mammoth concentration of fruit here and perfect integration of fruit, oak and acid. Closed on opening, this morphs into an absolute stunner as is breathes and opens over several days. Sweet fruit, searing acid, savoury complexities, chocolate, graphite and blue fruits are all on show along with earthiness, cedar and plenty of tannin. This might just be the McLaren Vale’s best Shiraz.
Hesketh Old Vine Barossa Shiraz 2017
95pts Sam Kim
A celebration of old vines, this intense cuvée is crafted from vines with an average age of 50+ years. Fruit was handpicked and open fermented, sitting on skins for 10 days prior to pressing and transfer into French oak. The oak is 40% new, the balance 3 y.o. – ensuring enough high-quality oak is present to season the powerful fruit without pulling focus from its glory. We found flint, cranberries, raspberries, cherries, plum, chocolate, black tea, spice and minerality. A stunner.
Haselgrove Catkin Shiraz 2018
2 Gold Medals, 96pts Sam Kim, 95pts Wine Showcase
A huge wine made from top quality fruit aged in spicy French oak. The result is full throttle Shiraz elegantly bridled by fine tannins and spice, which together season black fruits, cherries and plums. Drink now or any time over the next couple of decades.
Lake Breeze Cabernet 2018
95pts Nick Butler
Decant, decant, decant! Decant for at least a couple of hours before getting stuck into this beauty. A taut and sinewy Cabernet off 40-year-old vines which should improve with cellaring for a couple of decades. There are mulberries, blueberries, tobacco, dark chocolate, spindles of cedar, aching acidity and a plethora of fine tannins. In short, a ripper!
Zilzie Ferghana Cabernet 2018
92pts Sam Kim
Lush, black, rich and intense, this is an excellent Cabernet from McLaren Vale. Blackcurrants and blackberries, olives and aniseed are all at play. While this is already delicious, you could comfortably lay this down for a decade.
Zilzie Ferghana Shiraz 2019
95pts Kim Brebach
Lush with deep rich black fruits, cedar, liquorice, cigar box and plentiful fine tannins! An exceptional premium Shiraz that works wonderfully now with meat and will improve for up to a decade.
