Mr. Riggs 'Burnt Block' Shiraz 2016
This is the wine formerly know as Scarce Earth. The Scarce Earth program has (perhaps temporarily) been suspended… hence the new name and livery. Fruit, as always comes from Ben Riggs Piebald Gully vineyard in McLarenvale, specifically from the ‘burnt block’. The block comprises Maslin sand. This is a vibrant wine, combining power with lifted, bright blue and black fruits. There’s complexity already and compelling acidity pummelling fruit from the tip of your tongue to a long finish. Tannins are finer and a touch less chalky than normal. This is superb.
