Monterra Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Genius Cabernet this. We opened a bottle at a recent masterclass and it was the clear winner among close to 30 high end wines opened on the day. It’s plush and intense, glorious now and yet with more than a decade ahead of it. Black fruits, blue fruits, pepper, cedar and fine French oak tannins. Stunning.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

Monterra is a brand split across the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. Mike Farmilo is the winemaker here, former maker of Penfolds Grange and twice winner of the Jimmy Watson trophy. Brad Rey is also heavily involved (Zonte’s Footstep). The quality of the reds is superb, as the medal cabinet attests. The 15 Merlot is varietal and rich and a gold medal winner. The Nero d’Avola is superb, a deserved trophy winner. We also love the Shiraz, which has picked up a gold medal and was also awarded best wine in class at the Winemaker Challenge in 2017.
