Massena 'The Moonlight Run' Mataro Grenache Shiraz 2017

Concentrated and complex, this was clearly the best wine we looked at during one mammoth session of tasting panel pleasure and pain. It’s mouthfilling with black fruits, waxy tannins and great length … savoury and smoky with beetroot, cinnamon, pepper and cumin … just so beautiful.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

In a scene that today seems almost as bizarre as Donald Trump becoming POTUS, a patch of 60-year-old Shiraz vines in the North-Western Greenock district of the Barossa was close to being bulldozed. With a lot of love for the Barossa’s old vines and perhaps a dash of foresight, mates Dan and Jaysen lobbied the grower to sell the fruit to them instead, and the “Eleventh Hour” Shiraz was born. It’s racked up plenty of accolades over the last decade or so. Massena also produce rippingly good wines from Viognier, Mataro, Saperavi, Tannat, Durif, Barbera and Primitivo.
